Lars Ørjan

Lars Ørjan is a PhD candidate at the University of Bergen and enjoys a scholarship from Volda University College where he lectures in political and democratic topics in the teacher education. He has obtained a master’s degree in Political Science from Norwegian University of Science and Technology where he wrote his thesis titled “Left Populism”. He completed a second master’s degree in Cultural meetings from Volda University College where his thesis explored “A critique of the liberal democratic reason”. Both papers look at how different approaches to populism says something about the discursive limits of our democratic reason.
Lars Ørjan is interested in right- and left-wing populism and especially enjoys researching the Essex-approach to populism as a political logic. In his PhD project Lars Ørjan is looking at the political dimension of democratic citizenship education in Norway after the recent curriculum renewal. Both looking at the theoretical and philosophical relationship between democracy and education, as well as analyzing different approaches to democracy in secondary school textbooks.
