Sumeyye Kocaman

Sumeyye Kocaman is the co-founder of the Oxford Democracy Network and a DPhil researcher at Oxford University. Her thesis focuses on globalisation and democratisation around the Greater Mediterranean, focusing on transportation and the arrival of motorised vehicles. Sumeyye is an interdisciplinary researcher and a member of various social sciences and humanities associations. She is also an associate fellow at the Royal Geographical Society and a member of the Royal Historical Society. Her academic interests include alternative modernities, socio-economic structures and patterns shaping the political culture of democracy and authoritarianism through questions on uneven development, mobility, and material culture. Her previous research focused on land law, constitutionalism, religion and secularism, and the legacies of colonialism and legalism in creating the modern world.
