Hasnan Bachtiar

Hasnan Bachtiar is a lecturer in the Faculty of Islamic Studies, University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Indonesia. He is also a Ph.D. student in the Faculty of Arts and Education, Deakin University, Burwood, Australia. Currently, he has worked as a casual research assistant to Professor Ihsan Yilmaz at the Alfred Deakin Institute for Citizenship andGlobalisation. Since 2020, he has been appointed as a research director at the BC Institute Abdul Malik Fadjar and a research assistant to Professor Pradana Boy on the project Radicalisation, Secularism and the Governance of Religion: Bringing Together European and Asian Perspectives (GREASE) in Indonesia, coordinated by European University Institute (EUI), Florence, Italy. He holds LL.B. majoring in Islamic law from UMM and Advanced Master’s from the Centre for Arab and Islamic Studies (CAIS) at the Australian National University (ANU).
