Dr. Ana Filipa Joaquim.

Ana Filipa Joaquim is a researcher and higher education lecturer specializing in political communication, digital populism, disinformation, political marketing, media literacy, and artificial intelligence in communication and education. She holds a PhD in Global Studies from NOVA University Lisbon, where her doctoral research examined the strategic use of disinformation within radical right populist political marketing, focusing on the Portuguese party CHEGA between 2019 and 2024.

Her research explores the intersection between populism, branding, digital platforms, propaganda, emotional mobilization, political polarization, and democratic resilience. She is particularly interested in how contemporary political actors adopt marketing logics and platform-specific communication strategies to construct political identities, mobilize audiences, and influence public perceptions.

Ana Filipa Joaquim teaches in Portuguese higher education and has an academic background in Marketing, Economics and Accounting Education, and Management. Her current research extends her doctoral work through longitudinal and comparative perspectives, including the evolution of CHEGA in 2025 and broader European cases of digital populism. She is also the author of The Age of Digital Populism: How Disinformation and Propaganda Are Transforming Politics, a book examining how disinformation and propaganda are transforming contemporary politics.
